Hotel heiress Paris Hilton has released a statement about
the flurry of attention and lawsuits regarding her recently
exposed sex tape. "I feel embarrassed and humiliated,"
she said, "especially because my parents and the people
who love me have been hurt. I was in an intimate relationship
and never, ever thought that these things would become public."
Her former boyfriend, Rick Soloman, has filed two lawsuits
concerning the three-year-old videotape, which allegedly
shows Paris engaged in an intimate encounter with the actor/producer.
One is a $10 million federal suit citing invasion of privacy,
copyright infringement, and asking for a preliminary and
permanent injunction against the distributors of the material,
Marvad Corp. and its president, who "are major players
in the Internet pornography business." The suit also
names Donald Thrasher as the man who allegedly stole the
footage and presented the tape to Marvad. Thrasher purportedly
"deceived" Marvad "into believing that it
had acquired certain rights in and to the video" for
the sum of $50,000.
The other filing is a slander suit against Paris and her
parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton. Solomon and his attorneys
are demanding $10 million in damages from the Hiltons, accusing
them of using "smear tactics ... to portray (Solomon)
as a rapist who took advantage of a sweet and innocent girl."
In court papers, Solomon maintains that Paris was an "active
participant" in the video who "repeatedly posed
and preened in front of the camera." Hilton family
attorneys moved quickly to stop the release of the video,
snippets of which are popping up on the Internet. Rick Hilton
also released a statement saying, "I love my daughter.
It goes without saying that I was severely unhappy when
I heard about this tape. I will, however, do everything
I can to support my daughter in every way possible."
